Architecture in Wood: design, construction, restoration

The availability of advanced research in the sector of architecture is vast, particularly abroad, but on some topics, fundamental for our country, a worrying void can be observed. We believe this must be filled with a dedicated and punctual programme, which takes full advantage of specialists of eminent fame and adequate instruments.

Our intention is to contribute to the development of professional skills and new graduates in sectors which are, in our opinion, strategic. The Masters courses will be held in two parallel ways: weekly lectures and real project laboratories.

Three fundamental and urgent areas of interest have been identified:

1) Architecture for a future where the founding social, economic and technical paradigms have radically changed;

2) Study, protection and reuse of the historic patrimony. This topic, which is decisive for Italy, currently sees a scarce investment of intellectual and economical resources, placing fundamental values of architectural values at risk; advanced training on the subject represents an important practical opportunity for many young professionals;

3) Wood is the primary material that has once again revealed winning features not only for general uses which are limited to specific types, but also as a valid occasion to invent new prestigious architecture, despite this still being relatively unexplored and unpractised in Italian architecture.

This training proposal reflects the now familiar characteristics of the high level didactics adopted in other fields of interest at L.UN.A.: well defined execution of programmes and techniques which tend to offer unquestionable quality of teaching, didactic materials and available instruments. Each topic and subject includes practical realisation and a state-of-the-art experience, in connection with private and public enterprises that participate actively in workshops.

L.UN.A. placement offices in Bologna and Milan will manage the profile of each candidate in order to build concrete professional opportunities and future occupation for a period of at least a year from attaining our final diploma.

Candidate selection comes about through an admission interview, where the candidate should also present his academic CV including any professional experience. During the interview, which is not binding, candidates may view details of the activities programme.
